I am a journalistic, documentary and portrait photographer. Before becoming a photographer I worked as an urban geographer in the field of spatial planning. Urban geography therefore forms an important theme in my work with a strong focus on people. I look beyond the headlines and I take time to investigate interesting social subjects in the Netherlands and internationally.
After my graduation at the FotoAcademie Amsterdam, my first photo was published in het Parool, the Amsterdam Newspaper. For five years I explored the city and its people with columnist Frenk der Nederlanden. I travelled abroad with journalists to Albania, Philippines and Angola. As a photojournalist I stood amongst the real men with big lenses. Many special moments were captured and published in magazines and newspapers.
Now I am not running around as a photojournalist. In different surroundings, meeting all kinds of people I take time and observe before making photos and let people adjust to me and my camera. My goal is to create my own special moments by waiting for the right move, touch or look.
